Do You Want to Be a Remote Learning for Quarter Two?

Remote Learning Quarter Two:

I am sure many of you are concerned with the news of the recent spike in confirmed positive cases that have been reported in NYC public schools and a few of our Catholic schools on Staten Island. I am sure that as the days and weeks progress more cases will be reported. It has been wonderful to hear from the parents of our remote learners that they are extremely happy with the process. Knowing that many families are opting for remote learning for the second marking period, it puts my mind at ease. With the cold and flu season about to begin in just a few short weeks. Many parents of remote students are requesting a continuation of remote learning for their children through the second marking period. Likewise, out of an abundance of caution, parents of students that are currently in school, have asked that their children start remote learning in November. Thank you for your desire to keep everyone safe and healthy.

In order to plan effectively, it is imperative that administration is aware of your intentions regarding attendance  during the second marking period. Please let us know if you intend to keep your child/children home for remote learning for the Second quarter marking period. Once you choose full remote learning as your option, no changes can be made until the second quarter marking period ends. One form per family. Please add all students' names and grades.

This survey must be filled out and submitted by noon on Tuesday, October 20, 2020. Any surveys not completed by this date, it will be assumed that you have chosen full remote learning.

Please use the link to complete the survey on or before noon of October 20th.

Reminder: Everyone is a Remote Learner 10/6: Tuesday

Remote Learning Tuesday:

On Tuesday, October 6th, school will be closed. On that day, students will work remotely from home from 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM. Teachers not scheduled for classes during those times, will assist in the placement and testing of cameras. From 12:00 to 3:30 the faculty and staff will be trained on the use of cameras for more effective remote and distance learning. Additionally, the faculty will work with administration to revise schedules to allow for more in-person learning within the cohort model. Though we know this may place a hardship on families who require child care, we must address these matters in order to meet the needs of our students. I thank you in advance for your understanding.

Remote Learning Only on Tuesday 10/6

Greetings Hill Families,

The overall response to remote learning from home has been overwhelmingly positive. As it has become apparent that during cold and flu season many more families are choosing remote learning for the second marking period, knowing that remote learning is going well is comforting.

Being 100 percent transparent, we realize that there needs to be some adjustments made to the distance learning cohort model we established in school. We had ordered cameras early in July and after many shipping delays and spending two weeks at customs in Mexico, the cameras arrived late Friday afternoon. The cameras are being set up today and we intend to have them operational by Friday. There have also been a few issues with Wifi connections and we needed to make adjustments to bandwidth to alleviate some of the strain on the network.

On Tuesday, October 6th, school will be closed. On that day, students will work remotely from home from 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM. Students who opt not to attend remotely will be marked absent for the day. Teachers not scheduled for classes during those times, will assist in the placement and testing of cameras. From 12:00 to 3:30 the faculty and staff, including our aides and administrators, will be trained on the use of cameras for more effective remote and distance learning. Additionally, the faculty will work with administration to revise schedules to allow for more in-person learning within the cohort model. As we expect a larger number of students to opt for remote learning in November through January, these upgrades will help enhance remote learning as well.

Though we know this may place a hardship on families who require child care, we must address these matters in order to meet the needs of our students.

I thank you in advance for your understanding.

Have a blessed evening,

Mr. Hansen
