Our second grade goal is to help your children grow academically, especially by strengthening their reading foundation and expanding their math framework.

In addition, we will do everything possible to guide them to become individuals we can be proud of by teaching about our faith and preparing them for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion.

And finally we hope to instill in them a curiosity and a desire to learn…while having lots of fun!

Updated information for working times and book pick up

Greetings,

Just a quick clarification regarding yesterday's email about our working plans for students.

K to 4
For students in grades K to 4, the 9:00 to 2:00 time frame is a suggestion of the amount of time they may spend on school work. As they may need a little more guidance, their work does not need to be submitted by 2:00, rather it can be submitted daily by the end of the day when parents have had time to check it and help them submit. Please just check for assignments at 9:00, as some work can be done independently.

5 to 8
For students in grades 5 to 8, the 9:00 to 2:00 time frame should be more closely adhered to, as they can work independently. Assignment should be submitted at the specified times set by teachers. Many of these assignments will be graded.

If you are in need of books, I will be in my office Monday at 9:30 and available until 10:00. You can come directly to the entrance by the main office on the 4th floor. If that time is not convenient, I am more than happy to schedule a time to meet later in the day. Please just let me know. I will make any accommodations that you need.

The building is undergoing a full and complete sanitizing from a cleaning company today.

Have a safe and healthy weekend. You are in my prayers.

Mr. Hansen

Greetings,

Teachers worked together today to create and formulate lessons for the coming week that will be used to supplement the work that would have been done in the classroom. Here is a basic outline that will help you to understand how to access assignments throughout the week and contact teachers for answers to questions about assignments. There is a healthy balance of review materials and some new concepts for them to begin reading about and exploring.

Work will be posted daily by 9:00 to Google Classroom and/or teachers website pages. Please do not wait for alerts.

Students should work on the assignments between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM, taking into account that throughout a normal school day, there would be a break for lunch and specials.

Teachers may be posting videos, reading passages, worksheets, websource and a variety of other content.

Students with multiple teachers should check all of their classes for work.

Some work may need to be submitted during the day and should be submitted on time. Students should follow the specific instructions of their teacher.

Teachers will be submitting homework assignments that may also need to be submitted and may be graded. Students should follow the specific instruction of their teacher. Check frequently for updates.

Teachers will be available to answer emails between 9:00AM and 2:45PM. All emails received later than 2:45 will be addressed the next day.

It is important to keep up with specific deadlines and check the teachers pages frequently after 9:00 AM

Please know that we as a staff are concerned for the wellbeing of our students and their families and we will continue to pray for all of you. We thank you for the beautiful words of thanks and support that have been expressed to us these last few days as we work to navigate through this difficult situation. Your acknowledgment of what we strive to accomplish is greatly appreciated. Please be safe and continue to take precautions.

If you were unable to pick up books today, I will be available Monday and Tuesday. Please email me and we can discuss a time for pick up.  lhansen@stjhill.org

On another note our Fashion Show has been moved to May 13th.

God bless you all and may he keep you all safe.

Mr. Hansen

Greetings,

Please note, though we are a private and independent organization, St. Joseph Hill Academy will comply with a mandate from the Superintendent of Schools for the Archdiocese of New York. We will have a 1/2 day tomorrow with an 11:15 dismissal. I will share more information regarding communication of work. Books will be sent home today and tomorrow.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Thursday, March 12, 2020) Superintendent of Catholic Schools Mr. Michael J. Deegan has announced Catholic Schools within the Archdiocese of New York will close all elementary schools in our system effective Monday, March 16 2020 until Friday March 20th, 2020, with the possibility of a more lengthy closure. Informed by expert health officials and the Health and Safety Task Force of the Office of the Superintendent of Schools, this decision was made out of an abundance of caution. The health and safety of our students, staff and families is of the utmost importance.

Additionally, after consultation with the leadership of the Catholic Youth Organizations and the Catholic High School Athletic Associations, all activities and all sporting events and practices have been cancelled indefinitely.

We are continuing to monitor the situation surrounding COVID-19 (Coronavirus). It is rapidly changing and we are closely following the advice of city, state and federal health officials We will keep you informed.

We truly understand that taking this action may cause some disruption to our families, but we strongly believe that these measures taken now will have the greatest success of decreasing risk to the whole community.

Over recent days our dedicated principals and teachers have been preparing educational materials for ongoing home-based learning to ensure our students continue to be academically engaged

Please refer to our website www.CatholicSchoolsNY.org for updates and links to best practices for staying healthy as well as links to the U.S. State Department, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), World Health Organization and other resources.

For more than two centuries, Catholic schools within the Archdiocese of New York have taught and nurtured children from diverse backgrounds and successfully provided students with the life-changing opportunities that are inherent in a Catholic education. Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of New York currently serve more than 62,000 students from PreK through 12th grade at more than 200 schools across nine counties and three boroughs throughout New York. That includes Manhattan, Staten Island, Bronx, and seven counties including Westchester, Orange, Dutchess, Rockland, Sullivan, Putnam and Ulster.

High Schools and Private Independent Catholic Schools closures are made independently of the Superintendent of Schools Office.

Sincerely,
Mr. Lawrence Hansen
