Dismissal

Kindergarten students, along with siblings, are dismissed at 2:00PM via the gray “van doors” located at the Columbia Ave side of our building. Van Doors are for arrival and dismissal only.  Teachers and staff are not permitted to open these doors.  Please do not ring this bell unless you are instructed to do so by a staff member. Please list on the back of the emergency card anyone whom you give permission to release your child to. This includes relatives and friends. Please contact your child's teacher to let them know if there are any custody arrangements that we should be aware of.

Change of Dismissal Procedure for Your Child

Please put a note in your child’s folder if you have to make a change in the way your child will be dismissed from school on a particular day. If there is a last minute or unexpected change in your child’s dismissal procedure please send me an email. If I do not respond by 1:45pm, please call the office at ext: 4136.

After School Clubs

Please let us know either with a note in the folder or an email each day that your child is attending an after school club.

Uniforms

All students should come to school each day in their complete school uniform. Only blue or black sweaters may be worn in school. Sneakers must be all white with a Velcro closure.

LABEL EVERYTHING! (Mittens, boots, sweatshirts, etc.)  Labeling saves tears. No nail polish or jewelry!

Backpacks

Student backpacks should be large enough to fit a folder, and projects.  Please place something on your child’s backpack to help them identify their backpack.  Please place a key ring on the main zipper.  The children have difficulty finding their belongings in multi-zippered backpacks.

Change of Clothes

Please send in a complete change of clothes (including undergarments) in a Ziploc bag labeled with your child’s name. This should be sent in by the end of the first week of school.  Any clothes sent home for washing should be replaced on the next day of school.

Absent Notes

Please fill out the absent note template if your child is absent for any reason. This should be returned to your child's teacher upon their return to school. You can access this document on our website under the Parent Resources tab.

Nut- Free Lunch & Snack

Lunch is eaten in the classroom at 10:00 AM. We maintain a Nut Free classroom for the health and well-being of the children who are allergic to peanuts, and face a tremendous risk from even the smallest exposure to any form or derivative of nuts at all! Lunch boxes may be used; however, place your child’s snack in a zip-lock bag so that they may easily identify it as their afternoon snack and not eat everything at lunch time. Unopened food/drinks will be returned home. Please do not send in sippy cups, thermoses, glass bottles, large drink/water bottles, food that needs to be heated, soda, candy or popcorn. Food thermoses may be used for food items only. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.  Spoons or straws are not on hand in our classroom.  Please make sure to provide the proper disposable utensils your child will need to eat their lunch or snack. Please note that Aftercare snacks should be labeled and sent in a separate bag.

Homework

Homework is assigned Mon. – Thurs. Please complete all assignments and return them in your child’s folder daily.

Missed School Work & Homework

Please leave a voice mail or email your child’s teacher, by 10:30 AM, if you would like to pick up missed work at the Golden Doors after dismissal time. The latest work may be picked up is 3:00 PM.  If your child is working on completing missed assignments please make sure to return all books to class and we will send them back home until your child catches up with missed work.

Missed Assignments due to Family Vacations

To keep in accordance with school policy, we will not issue any work in advance. All missed work will be saved and sent home for completion, upon your child’s return to school.

SJHA blue folders

Your child’s SJHA blue folder will be sent home daily.  Check the folder daily and remove all papers and memos. Please send the folder back to school every day.

If this folder is lost or tattered it must be replaced with another SJHA folder.  You will receive a new folder in January.  Additional folders may be purchased. All envelopes that you send to school should be placed in this folder and must have your child’s name on the outside and addressed to the attention of the intended recipient or event to be attended.

Standardized Tests

Kindergarten students will also be taking the MAP assessment in September, then again mid year (date TBA).
