Club Description
This new and exciting after school program is designed to inspire and engage students in grades 4 through 8 with hands-on activities that blend the creativity of LEGO building, the innovation of artificial intelligence (AI), and the logic of Python programming. This club aims to foster a deep interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) through collaborative projects, problem-solving, and ethical considerations in technology use.
Program Focus:
LEGO Building: Students will unleash their creativity by constructing various basics and advanced models using LEGO bricks. These projects will not only be fun but also educational, helping to develop spatial awareness, basic engineering concepts, technical writing skills, and teamwork skills.
Artificial Intelligence:
- Introduction to AI fundamentals and prompt engineering for students.
- The safe and ethical use of AI technologies.
- Practical AI projects like creating simple AI models and using AI tools for interactive communications and graphic design.
- Emphasis on AI safety, ethical considerations, and the importance of responsible use as a student.
Python Programming:
- Basics of Python programming tailored for young learners.
- Hands-on coding projects to create simple games, and interactive projects.
- Basics of Python programming using artificial intelligence.
Program Structure:
- Introduction to LEGO Building and Safety:
- Students will begin with an overview of LEGO building techniques and safety guidelines.
- Initial projects will focus on individual builds, gradually progressing to more complex group projects.
- Exploring Artificial Intelligence:
- Students will learn what AI is and how it works through age-appropriate explanations and activities.
- Discussions on AI safety and ethical use, ensuring students understand the impact and responsibilities of using AI technologies.
- Getting Started with Python Programming:
- Introduction to basic programming concepts using Python.
- Step-by-step tutorials and exercises to build confidence and proficiency in coding.
- Introduction to basic programming concepts using artificial intelligence.
Club Goals:
- To develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
- To develop an educational understanding of ChatGPT and other popular Large language Models.
- To inspire a lifelong interest in STEM fields.
- To teach students the importance of ethical and responsible use of all technology.
