Hello, my name is Mrs. Lynch.  I am a graduate of St. John’s University, holding a B.S. in Elementary Education and English.  I am the ELA and Science teacher for 5th Grade.

In fifth-grade, I begin on a complex journey as both the ELA and Science teacher, weaving together literature and scientific inquiry.  With cherished novels like "Esperanza Rising," "Holes," and "The One and Only Ivan" as our guides, we journey through the world of language and the realms of science.  Through the pages of these captivating tales, my students embark on thinking outside the box through figurative language learning that not only meets the rigorous standards of the New York State ELA curriculum,  but also serves as a portal to deeper understanding and empathy. As we unravel the trials and triumphs of the main characters, Esperanza, Stanley, and Ivan, we also delve into the scientific principles embedded within their narratives, aligning our explorations with the Next Generation Science Standards. We navigate through character development, analyze themes of resilience and friendship, and unravel the scientific mysteries hidden within the fabric of each story. In my classroom, literature and science together create a mosaic of learning and the wonders of knowledge unfold.
