JUNIOR HIGH MATH

The 8th grade Advanced Math class will attempt to develop the knowledge, attitude and skills, essential for success in High School. I plan to weave the 8th grade Math curriculum together with the Algebra I High School curriculum. It is my hope that the majority of the students will be prepared to take the Algebra Regents in June.

This year we will be working on polynomials, functions, linear and quadratic equations, as well as some trigonometry, geometry, radicals, probability and statistics. Each student will learn how to work with the graphing calculator. It is my goal for the students to reason abstractly as well as quantitatively.

The 8th grade Common Core Math class will embrace algebraic thinking concepts and master the curriculum needed to prepare them for high school math. The year will include an introduction to high school Algebra and Geometry so that a solid foundation of basic concepts is achieved. We will strive to exceed the goals set forth by the state standards and rigorously prepare students for academic success.

The three critical areas of the new core curriculum include concepts of functions and the use of functions to describe quantitative relationships, analysis of two and three dimensional space and figures, and the implementation of procedures to solve linear equations, systems of linear equations, and understand slope of a line to analyze situations and solve problems.

I will promote confidence in my students and encourage a positive attitude toward problem solving.

Halloween Dance Protocol

JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL HALLOWEEN DANCE PROTOCOL FOR ENTERING AND EXITING

Entering: All students will be dropped off at the Hylan Boulevard gate and walk up to the Golden Doors to be checked in at three different tables, one for each grade level. Students will then proceed to the Lower Gym. Parents should not walk their child/ren up to the doors. We will have staff members and parent volunteers monitoring arrival.

Exiting: All exits will be clearly marked-PLEASE ARRIVE PROMPTLY AT 10

a) 6th grade students and all siblings will be dismissed out the side door where the 1st and 2nd grades are usually dismissed. Parents will need to sign their child/ren and any students we have been alerted they were picking up.

b) 7th grade students will be dismissed out the side entrance (left side) of the Lower Gym on the porch, above the rock garden, and down the staircase. Parents will need to sign their child/ren and any students we have been alerted they were picking up.

c) 8th grade students will be dismissed out the side exit (right side) of the Lower Gym near the bleachers. Parents will need to sign their child/ren and any students we have been alerted they were picking up.

We kindly request that ONLY one parent come for pick up. Please DO NOT bring younger siblings (if possible). Once your child is picked up we ask that you immediately exit the campus to avoid congestion. I know this is often difficult but please make this accommodation so everyone can get home safely. To be courteous to the neighborhood residents' please do not park over driveways or double park. Exiting the campus immediately will create spaces for other parents to park.

Parking: Parents will NOT be permitted to drive or park on campus. They will need to find off-campus parking and walk to their child's entrance and exit point.
