Dress Code
Your school uniform confirms your attendance at St. Joseph Hill Academy and is a symbol of unity within the school community. It minimizes distractions in the learning process. It is important that students take pride in their appearance by wearing their complete uniform. Remember that by wearing it inside and outside the school, students are representing the school and their behavior should be a credit to both themselves and the school community.
The presence of anything that proclaims a current fad is not permitted. This includes hair styles for boys and girls.
What to Wear FAQ:
School Uniforms: We will begin the school year wearing our Summer/Spring uniform. This includes the polo shirt, skort or dress shorts and all white sneakers. You will not need the full school winter/ fall dress uniform and school dress shoes until mid to late October. Please don’t rush to buy the full uniform.
Gym Uniforms: On gym days all students will be expected to wear their FULL gym uniforms and all white sneakers. From September through October students may wear their gym shorts and gym t-shirts to school on gym days. Hill wear and Hill athletic Teams attire is NOT part of the gym uniform and students should NOT sub in these items. During cold weather months shorts and t-shirts can be worn under their Hill gym uniform sweats. Students should NOT be arriving at school in gym shorts or t-shirts in the winter and fall. (Christmas Carnival shirts can be worn in December and January on appointed day)
Cold Weather Hill Wear Days: On cold days we often give the option of gym uniforms and/ or Hill wear with Hill gym sweatpants or Hill wear pants sold in the school store. That is the only time when Hill wear is acceptable. On these days students will wear their all white gym sneakers. No short sleeve gym shirts are to be worn on cold weather Hillwear days. (gym uniforms must be worn on gym days). You will be notified in advance of Hillwear Days.
Dress Down Days: Throughout the year we have a variety of celebratory and/ or paid fundraising dress down days. These are not mandatory. On such days proper attire is required. No ripped jeans, tank tops, cropped shirts, bare midriffs or sleeveless shirts. Shorts must be an appropriate length and should come slightly above the knee. This applies to all dresses and clothing worn to all school related functions and events. No sandals, flip flops, Crocks, slippers or slides are to be worn to school.
Nails, hair, jewelry, backpacks and outerwear: Students are not permitted to wear nail polish or have nail tips. Please consult the student handbook for information regarding hair and jewelry. If hair was dyed in the summer please cut it or return it to the natural color before returning to school.
Backpacks for students can be any color as is the same for jackets. Jackets, fleeces, sweatshirts and/ or Hill wear are not to be worn in the classroom.
School sweaters and or gym sweatshirts (on gym days) will be worn if students want a bit more warmth. Students should NOT be wearing coats in class.
The Hill polo shirt will no longer be worn in place of the gym t-shirt on gym days. This was practiced many years ago and we will no longer follow this practice.

Dress Down Days
Dress down days occur periodically throughout the school year. Although the students are not in school uniforms, they still represent St. Joseph Hill Academy. Proper attire is required at all times. Some examples of inappropriate dress include: ripped pants and jeans, pajama pants (other than approved Hill Wear), spandex shorts, short skirts or dresses (more than finger-tip length above the knee), sleeveless blouses, tank tops, or revealing shirts (shirts that do not completely cover the torso or see-through shirts), or bare shoulders. Girls who wear leggings or leotard type pants MUST wear a top that extends below hips and covers the backside. Students who come to school on dress down days dressed inappropriately will contact their parents for a change in clothes.
Dress Code for School Events
Dress codes for events, including those outside of school, should mirror those of the Dress Down Policy. Appropriate attire is expected for all events, including school dances. Attire for these events should reflect the event status, based on the information contained in the invitation. Some examples of inappropriate attire include: ripped pants and jeans, short skirts or dresses (more than finger-tip length above the knee), sleeveless blouses, thin strap or strapless tops, or revealing shirts (shirts that do not completely cover the torso or see-through shirts), or bare shoulders. Students who attend events in dress that may be considered inappropriate will contact their parents for a change in clothes or may be asked to leave an event without a refund (if a paid event).
