Dress Code

Your school uniform confirms your attendance at St. Joseph Hill Academy and is a symbol of unity within the school community. It minimizes distractions in the learning process. It is important that students take pride in their appearance by wearing their complete uniform. Remember that by wearing it inside and outside the school, students are representing the school and their behavior should be a credit to both themselves and the school community.

The presence of anything that proclaims a current fad is not permitted. This includes hair styles for boys and girls.

Gym
Gym uniforms are to be worn by students only on gym days unless otherwise directed. We do not change ahead of gym so no gym bags are necessary. On days where there are after school sports clubs students are attending or SJHA Athletics practices that are happening on campus after school, you may wear your SJHA gym uniform too.

Gym uniforms include:
  • Gym shorts or sweatpants
  • Light blue SJHA t-shirt or sweatshirt
  • White sneakers and white socks only
  • You cannot wear Hill Wear on gym days.

Dress Down/ Hill Wear Days
Dress down days occur periodically throughout the school year. Although the students are not in school uniforms, they still represent St. Joseph Hill Academy. Proper attire is required at all times. Some examples of inappropriate dress include: ripped pants and jeans, pajama pants (other than approved Hill Wear), spandex shorts, short skirts or dresses (more than finger-tip length above the knee), sleeveless blouses, tank tops, or revealing shirts (shirts that do not completely cover the torso or see-through shirts), or bare shoulders. Girls who wear leggings or leotard type pants MUST wear a top that extends below hips and covers the backside. Students who come to school on dress down days dressed inappropriately will contact their parents for a change of clothes.

Dress Code for School Events
Dress codes for events, including those outside of school, should mirror those of the Dress Down Policy. Appropriate attire is expected for all events, including school dances. Attire for these events should reflect the event status, based on the information contained in the invitation. Some examples of inappropriate attire include: ripped pants and jeans, short skirts or dresses (more than finger-tip length above the knee), sleeveless blouses, thin strap or strapless tops, or revealing shirts (shirts that do not completely cover the torso or see-through shirts), or bare shoulders. Students who attend events in dress that may be considered inappropriate will contact their parents for a change in clothes or may be asked to leave an event without a refund (if a paid event).
